Overcladding facades is a cost-effective way to enhance building appearance and improve thermal performance by adding a new layer of cladding over the existing exterior. Cladding systems that can be used include metal panels and siding, insulated stucco, fibre cement, and thin-stone veneers – each cladding has its own aesthetic and functional benefits.
When optimally designed, overcladding minimizes disruption to building occupants and is often a more environmentally friendly option than complete demolition and reconstruction. Existing facades, such as masonry or concrete, can be structurally stabilized and enclosed as part of the new enclosure.
